Safeguarding Consultant

As the Safeguarding Consultant, you are responsible for implementing and developing the Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable People Framework to the Victorian and Tasmanian branch of the organisation. You will build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, conduct risk assessments, advocate for change, offer advice, and ensure safeguarding standards and compliance are met state-wide.

Reporting to the Executive Manager Safeguarding, you will use your extensive experience to provide training, policy support and guidance, to the organisation. You will offer strong relationship building and advocacy skills, drawing on your knowledge and understanding of safeguarding environments, in accordance with National and state-wide Child Safe Standards and legislation.

Specific key accountabilities will include:

  • Provide support, guidance and timely advice to missions, agencies and entities in relation to the effective implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures designed to protect children, young people and adults experiencing vulnerability
  • Support missions, agencies and entities to meet their statutory obligations and prepare for auditing activities
  • Working with a wide variety internal and external stakeholders to support missions, agencies and entities to meet their Safeguarding responsibilities and equip employees and volunteers to prevent and /or effectively respond to safeguarding incidents and child abuse allegations (including evaluating training effectiveness and identifying emerging training needs)
  • Proactively manage relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Maintain records and provide timely reports to the Executive Manager Safeguarding
  • Manage internal and external investigations processes
  • Attend meetings and workshops as required

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary Qualification relevant to Social Work, Social or Behavioural Sciences, Criminology or other relevant qualifications
  • Relevant experience in the areas assessment and management of risk
  • Relevant experience in training on sensitive topics to adults from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • In depth understanding of the legislative context in relation to the protection of children from harm in an organisational and family context
  • A current driver's licence and a willingness to regularly travel across Victoria with occasional travel to other parts of Australia
  • Valid Working with Children Check and National Police Check
