Mary’s House Services Limited is a not-for-profit providing domestic violence services to women and their children through Mary's House refuge, and The Daisy Centre an outreach support service.

Mary’s House Services provide women with professional case management addressing housing options, health, education and training, legal issues, including family law, protection orders and immigration, financial issues, referral to appropriate counselling services and other services.

This role is for an experienced domestic violence caseworker to support women and their children during their stay in the refuge, and for women and children still living in the community.

Case management is strengths-based, person-centred and trauma-informed. A feminist approach and perspective applied to understanding domestic violence and the ability to assess from a biopsychosocial model/framework are essential.

Caseworkers are required to be part of an after-hours on-call roster which is paid in addition to normal hours.

This position requires initiative and the ability to manage and complete a range of tasks with minimal day-to-day supervision. Casework supervision will be provided by a senior social worker and clinical practice supervision is provided monthly by an external clinical supervisor.

We have full-time, part-time, permanent and contract roles available. Remuneration is at Level 4 of the SCHCADS Industry Award plus superannuation, negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.

Key duties

  • In-depth intake assessment of referrals of clients and their children for legal, psychological, health, housing, income maintenance and debt, immigration and safety issues
  • Induction and settling in of clients into the refuge or temporary accommodation as necessary
  • Ongoing intensive casework and strengths-based case management of refuge residents and other outreach clients, working towards independent living, free of violence and abuse
  • Case planning and ongoing review of case plans
  • Referral to and advocacy with appropriate agencies and services for legal, counselling, health, financial, housing, immigration and other needs
  • Developing strong referral networks, including services in the local area and in other locations
  • Responding to ad hoc requests for information, advice, referral and other assistance

Selection Criteria

The position requires initiative and the ability to manage and complete a range of tasks with minimal day-to-day supervision.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, preferably a Bachelor of Social Work
  • Demonstrated experience working in the field of domestic violence (minimum 12 months - 2 years desired)
  • Good understanding and knowledge of domestic violence, its dynamics and effects
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of legal processes and other service responses to domestic violence
  • Strong case management skills
  • Good networking and referral skills
  • Commitment to professional integrity and accountability
  • Commitment to working in a collegiate, collaborative and co-operative manner with all people
  • Organised and professional
  • High standard of communication (including effective case note writing)
  • Current driver’s licence
  • National criminal record check
  • Working with Children Check
