About Marymead

Marymead is a well-respected, community based, not-for-profit organisation that has provided a range of support services to children, young people and their families since 1967. Marymead now operates throughout the southern and western regional areas of NSW as well as the ACT with offices in Goulburn, Wagga Wagga, Young, Moruya and Canberra. Marymead is seeking to fill multiple permanent full time Family Counsellor positions as outlined below.

About the position

As a Family Counsellor, within our Family Relationship Services Unit you will provide counselling services in our ARCK and KAYAKS programs. The Assisting Responsible Care for Kids (ARCK) program aims to improve family relationships in the best interest of children by providing therapeutic support to parents who are separated or divorced, as well as their children. The ARCK program works with parents in a child-inclusive model, incorporating a Child Inclusive Practice (CIP) component to provide child consultation and feedback to separated parents, and offering 6-8 individual counselling sessions with parents as well as group work. Groups include Keeping Kids in Mind and Talking With Your Kids. The goals of ARCK are to reduce conflict and improve communication and cooperation between parents in service of the children’s’ best interests.

The Kids And Youth Are Kool post Separation (KAYAKS) program aims to support children and young people (CYP) five to 18 years of age, within the context of their family, to manage and enhance their relationships during and after family separation. KAYAKS helps CYP deal with issues arising from parents’ relationship breakdown and the circumstances in which they find themselves. This is done primarily through 6-8 age appropriate individual counselling sessions with CYP, and where appropriate, with family involvement.

As a Family Counsellor you will provide Child Inclusive Practice assessments, group work, case planning, risk assessments, individual counselling and referral to other relevant services according to program objectives. You will be primarily based at Marymead’s Narrabundah site but may provide outreach to other locations in ACT or NSW.
