Alcohol and Other Drug / Social & Emotional Wellbeing Counsellor

Our staff provides counselling, treatment, harm reduction and group therapy programs for Aboriginal people at risk and works with the broader community in a primary prevention role.

Essential qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Alcohol and Other Drugs – Mental Health or equivalent is essential for this position
  • Demonstrated ability in the provision of assessment, case management and individual/group counselling interventions for alcohol and other drug-affected clients
  • Experience liaising and networking with a range of services, in particular, the Department of Communities and Justice | Community Services and Health Agencies
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal people and the ability to communicate and negotiate sensitively with Aboriginal people
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, liaison and negotiation skills, including the ability to provide accurate, consistent, timely and appropriate service to clients
  • Ability to maintain client records, statistics
  • Sound case note and report writing skills
  • Sound written and oral communication skills
  • Sound computer skills
  • Senior first aid certificate
  • Current NSW driver's licence

Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience working with Aboriginal people with alcohol & other drug problems
  • Experience in working within a comorbid alcohol & other drug and mental health framework
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate programs i.e. experience in facilitating small groups
