The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available to join Maribyrnong City Council's Early Years team as the Early Years Officer - Supported Playgroups. Reporting to the Team Leader Early Years, this role focuses on facilitating supported playgroups for families parenting under difficult circumstances with an aim to develop the skills and confidence of parents to support their children's development and wellbeing.

This position is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Playgroup delivery, including providing a positive playgroup experience for families experiencing disadvantage;
  • In-Home Coaching, including delivering Smalltalk strategies to families within the playgroup sessions and In-Home Support sessions;
  • Developing partnerships with organisations to support the engagement of families and transition to other universal and specialised services; and
  • Supporting families to link to services such as Maternal and Child Health Services (MCH), early childhood education and care services and family support services to enable families to receive services appropriate to their needs.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Children's Services, Social Work or equivalent at Diploma level or above;
  • An understanding of and a commitment to supporting the practices and processes as outlined in the DHHS Supported Playgroup Program Guidelines and other early years best practice guidelines;
  • Skills in providing opportunities to support and advocate positive parenting strategies to families; and
  • Demonstrated experience in the facilitation of effective communication and engagement range of community members including those from CALD and Indigenous backgrounds.

This role also requires the successful person to have the following:

  • Current Victorian driver's licence;
  • Current Working with Children Check; and
  • No relevant criminal record found in a police check.
