The opportunity

Our Diversity and Inclusion section has an exciting permanent part-time opportunity for a Disability Planner to join the team. This critical role will develop and deliver the Council's Disability Action Plan, work with internal stakeholders to build capacity and ensure Council staff are well equipped to respond to the needs of our disability community.

This is a meaningful opportunity for a passionate individual who has demonstrable experience working with diverse communities, including people with disability.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver the Council's Disability Action Plan in line with state legislation and organisational commitments
  • Provide specialist disability access and inclusion advice to Council staff in a responsive and timely manner
  • Build the capacity of the Council to integrate access issues into contemporary planning processes
  • Monitor and report on the Council's Disability Action Plan through the evaluation of work undertaken across Council including the assessment of its impact
  • Apply social justice principles and a community development framework to access and inclusion issues when working with Council staff
  • Work across Council to build collaborative relationships, understanding and ownership of access and inclusion objectives with key stakeholders
  • Provide specialist disability access and inclusion advice to the People and Capability Department in the development of disability-related training services

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in a field related to disability, social, community or policy and planning including; community development, policy development or a similar discipline with some relevant experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of disability; the impacts of disability on an individual and how these issues interface with the community
  • Practical skills, knowledge and understanding of the Social Model of disability
  • Demonstrated understanding of relevant State and Federal policy frameworks, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme and the state Disability Action Plan
  • No relevant criminal record found in a police check
