The Opportunity

The Early Years team has an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Best Start Program Leader to join us at Maribyrnong. Reporting to the Coordinator, this position will oversee and deliver the Best Start Program and develop strategic alliances across sectors to support early years activities and strengthen partnership development within the city of Maribyrnong.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the Coordinator Early Years, design and oversee the implementation of strategic partnerships, community engagement actions and evaluation processes, to meet the outcomes of the Best Start Program and support an effective early years system for the local community;
  • Develop and enhance local strategies to support local responses and address emerging trends and community needs. This includes facilitating the development of the Plan Study Do Act cycles to meet the identified DET outcomes and to foster, family centred practice;
  • Support project partners to ensure that all work undertaken is informed by evidence and knowledge gathered through consultation, research and practice experience;
  • Oversee the development of reports, evaluation procedures and feedback mechanisms to inform partnership groups, Council and State Government on Best Start actions and outcomes; and
  • Provide accurate professional advice to internal/external stakeholders and the community in relation to local service needs and child/family issues.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • A relevant Tertiary qualification in children's services, community development or a related human / social sciences discipline;
  • Demonstrated experience in utilising analytical and conceptual skills to build a solution-based approach to complex situations;
  • Substantial experience in community planning within a human rights context and developing partnerships to achieve outcomes for children and families;
  • Comprehensive skills in designing and implementing consultations, research and advocacy strategies with children, families and local agencies.
  • Strong written skills, presentation and negotiation skills; and experience in compiling reports/strategy documents.

This role also requires the successful person to have the following:

  • Current Working with Children Check
  • No relevant criminal record found in a police check
