The context for this role

This role is part of the Decision Making Possibilities (DMP) project that is enabling people with complex communication access needs to increase their capacity to make their own decisions. As a member of the DMP practice group, people in a Network Facilitator role will work directly with one or more people who need active support with their communication and decision making. The focus of the role is to create and facilitate a network of Decision Supporters around each person. Decision Supporters will actively engage in learning about and implementing what it takes to support and enable the person’s decision making. Training and support to Network Facilitators and Decision Supporters will be provided as part of the project.

This position is responsible to ensure that:

  • A network of Decision Supporters is identified, created and facilitated with and around a Decision Maker
  • Decision Makers provide ongoing assent to participating in the project
  • Decision Makers and Decision Supporters engage with the project’s learning opportunities and resources
  • Decision Supporters reach consensus about and act on the person’s will and preferences
  • The decision making capacity of Decision Makers and Supporters increases through the project
  • Any issues or conflict within the network are identified and addressed
  • Evaluation data and resources are developed collaboratively under guidance from the Project Coordinator
  • Decision Makers and others are supported to record their stories and supported decision making outcomes for publication and for use in the project evaluation.

The person in this role will be expected to:

  • Get to know the Decision Maker and their Decision Supporters
  • Liaise with the project Speech Pathologist about their Decision Maker’s communication
  • Participate in a range of intensive and ongoing Network Facilitator training opportunities
  • Facilitate regular meetings with each Decision Maker and their Decision Supporters
  • Effectively contribute to the Project as a key team member and
  • Contribute to the project evaluation.

The project plan anticipates that achieving the outcomes of this position will require approximately 6 hours/month plus 2hrs training/month ongoing.

Role requirements

  • Current Australian drivers’ licence and own reliable vehicle
  • A current NDIS Worker Screening Card and Blue Card (or willingness to obtain)
