Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is an organisation using light aircraft to deliver help and hope in over 30 developing countries. For over 70 years, MAF has been transporting patients, relief workers, produce and medical supplies to the world’s remotest regions and places of deepest human need – places where flying is not a luxury but a lifeline.

One of these places is Arnhem Land, a historical region of the Northern Territory of Australia. It is also a vast wilderness area, defined by rocky escarpments, gorges, rivers and waterfalls. MAF has served the people in Arnhem Land for over 45 years by sharing God’s love through aviation and technology.

To continue enabling our service in Arnhem Land we require a Programme Director who will be responsible for achieving MAF’s vision, values and plans as described in the annual ministry plan in the country of operation within the guidelines and directions given by the Regional Director. The Programme Director is responsible for the management of all operational of requirements of the programme and the leadership and support of the MAF Arnhem Land staff and families.

This is an exciting time as we are expanding our team at Arnhem Land and require a qualified candidate to ensure that MAF's activities have an impact in places of greatest need by managing and improving the programme's service delivery to ensure maximum impact, in line with organisational strategy. You will be working with staff to develop and communicate a clear sense of vision and purpose, for the programme as a whole, and each individual within it. This is to ensure that MAF's vision is fulfilled in Arnhem Land by working collaboratively with the Regional Director for strategic input and direction.

Your responsibilities will be in developing partnerships with internal and external customers as well as maintaining a good relationship with governing bodies, ensuring that operations are conducted in a safe and efficient fashion and that flight operations and maintenance activities are financed and carried out to the standards required by the Civil Aviation Authority and MAF International.

Additionally, you are required to support the performance and well-being of the MAF team by overseeing the personal, spiritual and corporate well-being by taking firm action in the event of individual or team performance falling below the acceptable norms and enabling appropriate training to take place. You will also work together with the HR department to ensure good human resource management systems.

We expect the Programme Director to ensure effective and efficient use of resources within the programme. Ensuring that information is sent to resource providers in a timely fashion and to develop annual plans, financial forecasts, manage cash flow and financial performance.

It is the duty of the Programme Director  to exercise spiritual leadership by setting Christian standards in the working environment and leading by example by attending corporate daily prayer meetings to hear about the work of MAF and to spend time in prayer and worship with other staff members.

Essential criteria: 

  • Relevant qualifications at a level of bachelor’s degree (preferred) or at least 5 years relevant work experience in similar role.
  • Strong interpersonal, team and project management experience.
  • Personal experience of working in a developing country or similar field
  • Experience living and working in a developing country and/or mission is essential.
  • Experience of working in aviation or related field 

 Salary package: $64000 + housing will be offered to successful candidate.
