MADALAH Limited is a not-for-profit organisation that offers Secondary and Tertiary education scholarships for Indigenous students from remote and regional communities to West Australia’s leading boarding schools and Australian universities.

The organisation also manages Nyirrwa Murrgurlayi, Employment and Education Housing Broome. The WA Housing Authority established the Employment and Education Housing Program to address the need for supported accommodation targeting Aboriginal people from remote communities to undertake training and access employment opportunities in regional centres of Western Australia.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The purpose of this role is to Empower Indigenous students to transform their lives through education and training. You will do this under the direction of the Student and Families Liaison Officer working across 23 partner schools supporting a cohort of over 300 Indigenous students. This role requires flexibility of hours with events falling outside of normal working hours, which can include weekends and public holidays.

THE DUTIES OF THE ROLE ARE:

• Carry out school visits with students on an as needs basis
• Develop Individual Learning Plans with students
• Help create culturally safe environment within the MADALAH cohort
• Offer wrap around support to students under direction of Student and Families Liaison Officer
• Follow student support plans to ensure students are on track to succeed
• Work with students beyond year 12 to develop strong career pathway plans
• Support students on MADALAH camps and events
• Carry out regional tours to market scholarship opportunities and advocate for MADALAH 

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY, YOU WILL NEED TO MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

• Ability to obtain a satisfactory police clearance and hold a Working with Children Check card
• This position requires a responsible person who is compassionate and self-motivated with well-developed interpersonal skills and personal integrity.
• High level organisational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure
• Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, society and the issues affecting Indigenous people is required.
• Ability to work with Indigenous students and employees with an appropriate level of cultural understanding, empathy and sensitivity
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Highly developed communication skills (interpersonal, written and verbal) with experience in conflict resolution and the ability to communicate well over the phone
• Ability to confidently use workplace technology
• Ability to work in a sensitive manner with students
• Ability to participate in individual performance reviews
