About the role

This position is situated within the Western Regional Parenting Service and responsible for flexible and tailored packages of support to families and children residing voluntarily in residential care, or at risk of requiring care due to the child’s complex disability needs and provide one on one intensive support to parents. The Children with Disability Needs (CSDN) Family Practitioner is a member of the Western Regional Parenting Service and reports to the Coordinator of the Western Regional Parenting Service. The Western Regional Parenting Service sits within the Children, Youth and Families Services across West Division which delivers services in disability, family and community.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have

  • A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families.
  • Degree in Social Work, Disability, Education, Health, Early Childhood, Community Development, Family Work or an allied field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Working knowledge of family-centred and strengths-based practice, supporting inclusion and participation.
  • Proven ability to engage and provide support to parents and families, including those considered vulnerable or at risk.
  • Strong knowledge of a disability support, trauma informed care and relevant experience working in this area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development, attachment and bonding, trauma and contemporary parent educational theories.
  • Working knowledge of community development practice and community development principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NDIS and OoHC system.
  • Experience working with Culturally and linguistically Divers (CALD) communities.
