Purpose of Position
The Mackay High Risk Team (HRT) Coordinator is responsible for leading and co-ordinating a multi-agency, place based, and risk-driven early intervention response across the Mackay region to increase victim safety and improve system responses for those at imminent risk of harm due to domestic and family violence.
The Domestic Violence Resource Service (Mackay & Region) Inc. (DVRS), Sexual Assault Service, and Mackay Women's Centre (MWC) are co-located under the umbrella of Mackay Women’s Services (MWS). DVRS is a not-for-profit community organisation funded by the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women. It operates a service to support women and children experiencing domestic or family violence and offers a Sexual Assault Service also. The service is based in Mackay and serves the region from St. Lawrence in the south to the Whitsunday’s in the north, and west to the Isaac mining hinterland communities.

- Coordinate a multi-agency team of government and non-government agencies who are able to share relevant information regarding DFV risk and to develop safety management actions that provide greater protection for the victim and their children and hold perpetrators to account.
- Work proactively in conjunction with core government members and non-government integrated response service providers working with families most at risk of imminent danger.
- Manage the sharing of information while protecting the confidentiality of information within the confines of the group, the client case, and with consideration for the immediate need to:
- Assess whether there is a serious threat to the life, health, or the safety of people because of DFV
- Respond to serious threats to the life, health, or safety of people because of DFV
- Refer people who fear or experience domestic violence, or who commit DFV, to specialist DFV service providers.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge
- Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications in the psychology, social work, law, or human services fields.
- Extensive experience and skills in high-risk indicators and conceptual frameworks for conducting risk assessments and delivering crisis support and advocacy work, particularly with women who have experienced domestic violence trauma.
- Working knowledge of the Domestic & Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and ability to communicate within professional boundaries about local court and legislative proceedings as they relate to the Act.
- Experience and skills in negotiating, advocating, delivering outcomes, and creating change whilst maintaining diverse relationships within a range of community and government agencies and other key stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritise, support peers, and set boundaries in order to meet competing demands.
- Dedication to continually increase knowledge regarding feminist practice and its application in working against domestic and family violence.
- Dedication to continually apply and increase knowledge and skills to ensure the provision of cultural, gender, and age-appropriate services.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
- Current Blue Card.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the issues affecting women and children experiencing gender-based violence, and your understanding of feminist perspectives on gender-based violence including the individual, familial, legal, and social issues involved.
- Capacity to work autonomously and to effectively manage programs and their resources.
- Experience with the provision of supervision and support in a collaborative staff team environment in a community-based organisation.
- Knowledge of and contribution to the successful management of the administrative functions in a community-based organisation including high-level computer, data management, and reporting skills.
- Current driver’s licence.

With an empathetic nature you are compassionate toward vulnerable individuals. You are approachable, and a good problem solver who can think quickly on your feet to make sound decisions. Excellent interpersonal skills are part of your skillset enabling you to build rapport with internal and external people and stakeholders easily. In addition, you have comprehensive knowledge of legislative requirements and can promote a culture of compliance. Importantly, you will be someone who closely aligns with the organisational values of Mackay Women’s Services (MWS).
