As the organisation continues to grow, we are seeking a highly organised and detail-focused Compliance & Risk Officer to strengthen our compliance systems, accreditation requirements, safeguarding frameworks, and organisational risk management processes.
About the Role
The Compliance & Risk Officer plays a key role in coordinating organisational compliance, quality assurance, accreditation, and risk management activities.
Working closely with senior leadership, this role ensures MAA International meets all regulatory, sector, and accreditation requirements while also strengthening internal systems beyond compliance deadlines.
This is a detail-focused coordination role suited to someone who is methodical, calm under pressure, and confident managing multiple compliance workflows across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Accreditation
- Coordinate organisational compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks and sector standards, including ACFID Code of Conduct requirements as well as ACNC
- Support DFAT full reaccreditation processes, including preparation of Agency Profile, Desk Assessment, and Organisation Review documentation.
- Maintain accreditation calendars, documentation systems, and submission timelines.
- Ensure compliance obligations are met across reporting cycles for the various governance aspects of MAA International governance frameworks: Project, Partners, Suppliers, Finance and Quality.
- Work with International Partners to ensure compliance requirements are met.
- Conduct audits for Partners & Suppliers.
Quality Assurance & Systems
- Oversee and maintain organisational compliance registers, policies, and procedures.
- Support continuous improvement of compliance systems, templates, and workflows.
- Ensure version control and accessibility of governance and policy documentation.
- Monitor implementation of organisational policies across teams and programs.
Risk Management
- Maintain organisational risk registers and support regular risk reviews.
- Identify, document, and escalate compliance or operational risks as required.
- Support the development and implementation of risk mitigation strategies.
- Contribute to strengthening organisational governance and accountability frameworks.
Safeguarding & Complaints
- Support safeguarding frameworks, ensuring policies are implemented and understood across the organisation.
- Assist in managing complaints processes, including documentation, tracking, and follow-up actions.
- Support training and awareness initiatives relating to safeguarding and ethical conduct.
- Ensure all safeguarding and complaints systems are aligned with best practice standards.
Training & Organisational Support
- Support staff training and onboarding related to compliance, risk, and governance processes.
- Assist teams in understanding and implementing compliance requirements.
- Provide clear written documentation, guidance notes, and process support materials.
Administration & Coordination
- Maintain accurate compliance records, registers, and tracking systems using digital tools.
- Prepare reports, meeting notes, and documentation for leadership and governance committees.
- Support coordination of organisation-wide compliance deadlines and reporting cycles.
- Undertake additional compliance and governance tasks as required by management.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Demonstrated experience in compliance, governance, quality assurance, risk, or similar administrative roles.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines and processes.
- Experience maintaining records, registers, and structured documentation systems.
- Proficiency in digital tools such as spreadsheets, document management systems, and task tracking platforms.
- Strong written communication skills, including clear documentation and reporting.
- Ability to follow structured processes and work independently with minimal supervision.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity when handling sensitive information.
- Strong organisational and coordination skills.
Desirable
- Experience within the not-for-profit, international development, or humanitarian sector.
- Familiarity with ACFID Code of Conduct, DFAT accreditation processes, or similar frameworks.
- Experience supporting safeguarding, complaints handling, or WHS systems.
- Understanding of organisational risk management frameworks.
- Alignment with the values and ethos of Muslim Aid Australia.
