Lock the Gate is seeking an experienced & proactive campaigner to coordinate the organisation’s work on greenhouse gas emissions from coal mines and gasfields in Queensland. The position requires a candidate who is used to working in a fast-paced environment, with broad experience in driving campaigns and influencing policy development. The role includes a primary focus on collaborating with allies and supporters to deliver policy reform that reduces emissions from Queensland’s coal and gas sectors. This person is a coalition-builder and facilitator of diverse networks to empower action.
We are at critical moment in energy debates around the world where rapid decarbonisation is needed to urgently reduce greenhouse gas emissions to avoid catastrophic climate change.
In Queensland, there are no limits on direct emissions of greenhouse gases from coal and gas mines, limited monitoring and reporting, and plans for vast expansions and new projects that will dramatically increase emissions across the state, making it impossible to meet 2030 climate targets. Increasing fossil fuel sector emissions also shifts the burden of emissions reductions disproportionately on to other sectors like agriculture and transport.
This role will be responsible for building a network of diverse allies seeking reductions in resource sector emissions, and prosecuting the case for policy reforms to reduce emissions and improve monitoring and reporting. It will engage with experts to ensure the best quality science on emissions reduction, engage government departments and parliamentarians on reform opportunities, and engage with supporters to build strong pressure to deliver the reforms needed.
The role can be based in Brisbane or elsewhere in Queensland.
Lock the Gate is an equal opportunity employer. Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.
