Always Mum Group Facilitator & Case Manager

Lou’s Place is seeking an experienced and compassionate Group Facilitator & Case Manager to join our Always Mum program.

Always Mum is a therapeutic program supporting women who are mothers and have experienced domestic and family violence, trauma, homelessness, child protection involvement, family separation and other complex life circumstances.

The role involves facilitating the Always Mum group program and providing ongoing case management support to women before, during and after the group. The position supports women to strengthen their parenting confidence, emotional wellbeing, safety, connection with children, and access to appropriate services.

About the role

The Always Mum Group Facilitator & Case Manager will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating the Always Mum group program in a trauma-informed, strengths-based and woman-led way
  • Providing case management support to women participating in the program
  • Supporting women around parenting, safety, family relationships, child protection, housing, legal and other practical needs
  • Building trusting and respectful relationships with clients
  • Completing intake, assessment, case notes, referrals and other documentation
  • Working collaboratively with Lou’s Place staff and external services
  • Supporting program planning, evaluation and continuous improvement
  • Contributing to a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for women accessing Lou’s Place

Eligibility Criteria

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant qualification in Social Work, Community Services, Counselling, Psychology or a related field, minimum Diploma level, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in case management within homelessness, child and family services, domestic and family violence, AOD, mental health, or another complex needs setting.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating therapeutic, psychoeducational or support-based groups.
  • Demonstrated experience working with women who have experienced domestic and family violence, trauma, homelessness, child protection involvement and/or complex disadvantage.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based, woman-led and client-centred practice.
  • Sound knowledge of domestic and family violence, child protection, parenting support, family systems and child safety.
  • Strong case management, assessment, referral and advocacy skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to complete accurate case notes, documentation and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current National Police Check, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under Section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working directly with mothers and children.
  • Experience supporting women involved with the child protection system.
  • Experience working in homelessness, women’s services or specialist domestic and family violence services.
  • Knowledge of the NSW service system, including housing, child protection, legal, health, mental health, AOD and family support services

Additional Requirements

  • Availability to work onsite full-time hours
  • Capacity to manage emotionally challenging situations on a frequent basis

Our service is dedicated to supporting and empowering marginalised women and aims to provide women with a safe, supportive space where they can be supported with their basic needs, connect with others or just have access to a safe space to take time out and make plans for next steps. Lou’s Place meets women at their point of need and proceeds in its work with them at different rates and ways depending on their circumstances.

Lou’s Place is a not-for-profit charity that currently does not receive any recurrent core government funding; we rely on the generous support of our friends, corporate partners, and volunteers to continue our services. Our professional services include crisis intervention, referrals, and advocacy, as well as therapeutic and educational programs.
