Help the LOST IN BOOKS’ Volunteers reach their full potential! This is a special opportunity for a remarkable person to lead LOST IN BOOKS’ volunteer team. Share your passion for, and knowledge of adult learning and development.

ABOUT YOUR ROLE

The successful applicant will be an experienced and skilled Volunteer Coordinator, with a commitment to adult learning and development; and a passion for developing pathways for meaningful employment and training for LOST IN BOOKS volunteers.

Most of our volunteer base are local students and women, many of whom are gaining proficiency in English.

They volunteer with us for a range of reasons that include:

  • Contributing to their community
  • Finding a valuable use for their mother tongue
  • Developing new skills
  • Improving their ability to secure paid employment

To be successful, you will be able to demonstrate that you have these skills, attributes and experiences:

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and a people-centred, adaptive way of working
  • Experience in the successful recruitment and management of a volunteer workforce
  • Ability to design and implement adult learning and development programs
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to inspire, support and motivate others
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a variety of tasks
  • Ability to respect confidentiality and to respond to others with sensitivity
  • High level administrative, numerical and IT skills, and an ability to maintain accurate records, run a budget, and to produce clear written and oral reports
  • Experience working across different sectors and developing beneficial links with other agencies, including potential employers
  • Working effectively with diverse individuals from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Flexible and non-judgmental approach to people and to work
  • A motivation to contribute to promoting the value of multilingualism in contemporary Australian society
  • Be purpose-driven – we are more than a bookshop

Ability in a languages other than English is valued at LOST IN BOOKS. Digital skills and experience in web, social media and email communications are highly desirable for the role.

We require you to commit to our code of conduct, and to provide a valid Working with Children Check (paid work); National Police Check; First Aid Certificate; and a current unrestricted driver’s licence.
