The Team Leader of Community Programs oversees community programs and community engagement. Overseeing community programs involves managing staff, program development, implementation and reporting. Community engagement responsibilities include relationship development, community consultation and partnership management.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management:

Lead the Community Development programs:

  • Strategic partnership program
  • The Care and Food exchange Program
  • Youth capacity building program
  • Communication, Cross-cultural events and training
  • Settlement Program

Staff support and team leadership:

Programs are implemented by permanent and casual staff. Management duties include program development, contracting, staff management, supervising implementation and KPI achievement and reporting.

Undertake regular supervision with staff members as well as ad-hoc support as needed. Ensure all mentoring and professional development requirements are met for each staff member. Provide advice, support, professional expertise and direction as needed. Implement and chair regular team meetings and staff training workshops. From time to time supervise volunteers.

Community Engagement:

Undertake regular networking, meetings with stakeholders and development of community partnerships. Represent Multicultural Services via public speaking engagements at forums, workshops, meetings and conferences. Develop and maintain strong relationships and links with multicultural communities and leaders, including implementing community consultations.

This team leader position coordinates the settlement of new and emerging communities through general casework, group information sessions, and referral to mainstream services and activities, using a community development and capacity building approach. Due to COVID 19 there is an increased demand on our services particularly in relief and recovery work.

Organisational responsibilities:

  • Implement additional projects from time to time, which may be the sole responsibility of the team leader
  • Work from a culturally sensitive, community development framework
  • Participate in training as agreed between supervisor and employee
  • Participate in monthly supervision
  • Participate in organisational meetings and activities
  • Work collaboratively across the organisation to meet community need
  • Undertake other duties as required

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Bachelor of Social Work or a combination of other relevant degree and extensive work experience
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in the humanitarian settlement sector
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in community development roles
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in staff management
  • Strong understanding of the needs of new arrivals, at both the individual and community level
  • Experience in project management
  • Excellent spoken and written English, including experience in writing reports, grant application and in public speaking
  • Ability to undertake evening and weekend work (approx. once a week)

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of a second language
  • Existing connections and networks within the community and multicultural sectors in the Loddon Campaspe region

CONDITIONS

  • Satisfactory Police check on a yearly basis or as requested by Multicultural Services.
  • A current working with children’s check.
  • A current driver’s licence and access to own vehicle during work hours.
