Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre (WSMRC) is headquartered in Liverpool and supports newly arrived migrants and refugees. The organisation empowers diverse communities to connect, communicate and contribute.
WS MRC provides a range of wrap-around programs supporting our core settlement services. These include family services, playgroups, disability and health supports, youth activities and a variety of other information-based advisory and community leadership programs.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Youth Worker will support CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) young people with diagnosed mental health conditions and/or living with psychosocial disability and/or autism through casework support, managing community-based activities, co-designing and delivering community-based activities and projects.
- This role will be SCHADS Level 3-4 (dependent upon experience) with salary sacrifice options available.
- The position is permanent part-time up to 30.4 hours per week. (Applicants seeking less hours a week are also encouraged to apply).
THE YOUTH WORKER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING:
- To provide casework services to young people from CALD backgrounds experiencing mental health/ psychosocial disability/ autism and to where relevant; their families.
- Conducting in-depth needs assessments and developing and implementing case management plans, when required.
- Providing information and referral support, orientation, and training for clients to engage with Australian services and systems and assisting client’s skills development.
- Identifying and advocating for the needs of clients and the wider CALD community.
- Developing, organising and facilitating group-based projects and activities
- Contributing to continuous improvement and development of organisational practices and service delivery.
- Ensuring all policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Ensuring administrative requirements are upheld and met within their work.
- Supporting teamwork within the WSMRC – both within the Settlement Support Team and more broadly.
- The Caseworker will demonstrate appropriate ethics, values and behaviours and contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive WSMRC workplace culture, so that the organisation is able to provide quality services to meet the needs of migrants, refugees and culturally and linguistically diverse groups
ABOUT YOU
We are seeking an experienced, well-qualified professional to join our team.

- Qualifications in a relevant field such as community services or social work; a minimum of Diploma in community services or equivalent.
- Experience working with young people who are “at risk” and/or have experienced trauma and/or other mental health issues/ psychosocial disability/ autism
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and provide casework and groupwork support with young people from diverse language, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Understanding of social and settlement issues affecting refugees and CALD communities living in Southwestern and Western Sydney.
- Strong administrative, organisational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated computer skills alongside skills and experience in utilising electronic client databases.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Proficiency in spoken and written English, with demonstrated experience in report writing
- Drivers Licence and access to a suitably insured vehicle
- Able to provide a clear and suitable Working with Children’s Check and Police Clearance
