The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation (SAKGF) introduces pleasurable food education to children during their learning years in order to form positive food habits for life. SAKGF has been successful in providing the inspiration, information, professional development and support for institutions to deliver pleasurable food education programs, with sustainable results.

SAKGF has a number of roles for Healthy Kids Advisors as part of an exciting new program. The Advisor roles will be based within their allocated municipality and be responsible for engaging the community, encouraging uptake, and practical implementation of the new healthy eating program. In addition, the Healthy Kids Advisor role will be leading the community engagement in generating buzz and excitement around the healthy eating movement. Anticipated start date for these roles is late January 2022.

Your key accountabilities and deliverables will include:

  • Implement the project on the ground, liaising and negotiating with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Connect with relevant local community organisations where children and food are present, e.g. schools, community centres and sporting clubs, creating linkages and generating the buzz for the campaign.
  • Liaise with local government on health, wellbeing, local food strategies and plans.
  • Integrate project aims with other community needs and actions, and provide feedback on their integration.
  • Build mutually beneficial, collaborative relationships with staff from program partners, local government, and other health promotion professionals in your region.
  • Work across multiple programs and services to deliver a streamlined approach and consistent messaging.
  • Local project ownership across the municipality, including working autonomously in the field to deliver on project goals, identifying local opportunities and stakeholders in a proactive and self-directed way.
  • Work with local organisations to encourage participation in the project and assist in providing practical support and solutions that are tailored to their individual needs to meet the project goals.
  • Contribute to the state-wide team of HKAs by sharing learnings and successes.
  • Gather required data for monitoring and reporting requirements as per project requirements or requested by the Team Leader.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to contribute to continuous improvement within the project.

Tertiary qualifications in social or health sciences, community development or engagement, stakeholder management or communications, public health and/or extensive experience in community engagement or children’s settings, as well as existing connections and links to your local community will be key to your success in the role.

The ideal candidates will have strong organisational skills, the ability to prioritise, be a self-starter, and have strong interpersonal and relationship-building capabilities with a range of people from social and cultural backgrounds.

Both a WWCC and a current drivers licence are essential in this role as a fully maintained vehicle will be provided.
