Group Leader - Family Grief Camps

Lionheart Camp for Kids Inc.

About Us

Lionheart Camp for Kids (Lionheart) is a not for profit organisation working to support some of WA’s most vulnerable children and families following the death of a family member.

Lionheart has played a significant role in developing a connected, compassionate and caring WA society, where grief is seen as a natural, healthy and normal response to loss by providing children’s bereavement programs. Lionheart is an organisation run by passionate and skilled bereavement professionals, and is supported by caring volunteers. We offer education programs and camps to grieving families and children in Western Australia, with most of our programs being held on Whadjuk Noongar boodjar.

Lionheart is proud of its person-centred approach and values motivated and passionate Volunteers. Importance is placed on the team’s commitment to ‘go the extra mile’ to ensure the best possible outcomes for the children and families we support.

About the Role

  • Subcontractor position, commencing in 2025.
  • Part-time hours (10-20 hours per program, usually on weekends) throughout the year.
  • Flexible contract with no fixed requirements about availability throughout the year, to work in with other work and life commitments; all negotiable for the right person!

The position of Group Leader is an integral role within Lionheart. It reports to the Lead Facilitator on programs (and is supported by the Camp Manager) and to the Operations Manager. Group Leaders are essential for supporting our Lead Facilitator to develop a safe and caring environment for bereaved children (and their adult/s) following the death of a parent, primary caregiver or sibling. Group Leaders interact, listen, mentor and have fun with children who attend Lionheart programs, and deliver the program using a person-centred, strengths-based approach to working with our participants.

Important to the Group Leader role, is the responsibility to establish and maintain meaningful relationships with all who attend a Lionheart program, including participants, volunteers and other Lionheart staff. Lionheart, as a predominantly volunteer based organisation, values our volunteers and Group Leaders and deeply appreciates all that our Group Leaders offer to our organisation and families.
