About Us

Lighthouse Foundation operates clinical services to improve the lives of young people, children and babies who have been affected by complex trauma and are experiencing, or likely to experience youth homelessness. Our multidisciplinary team utilises a framework of trauma informed practice that is guided by attachment and psychoanalytic theory to support young people in developing their capacity for meaningful and self-determined productive living.

Our Foster Care Program provides 24/7 practical and emotional support to up to 10 caring households across the Northern Region of Melbourne. Foster Carers, Therapeutic Carers and children and young people are supported by a multidisciplinary clinical team through our Hub, where we provide; art, drama, EMDR, and psychodynamic therapy, as well as case management, training and clinical supervision.

The Position

The Case Manager responsibilities hold two functions. Firstly, to recruit and assess potential Foster Carers, and secondly, to provide management and support to both Foster Carers and Therapeutic Carers. Liaising with other key stakeholders will be important to maintain and support a safe, stable and overall high standard of care to children and young people aged 0 – 18 placed in Lighthouse’s home based care.

This will involve facilitating Induction Training, undertaking Step by Step Assessments and liaising with children and families, Carers, the DHHS, health services and other specialist service providers to encourage and facilitate positive and collaborative working relationships.

This role sits within Lighthouse's Foster Care Program, working alongside Lighthouse's other services. The Case Manager role will be expected to cover after hours duties.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work/Psychology, or a similar field at degree level.
  • An understanding of how to work with and support children/young people who have been exposed to trauma, violence or neglect.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child and adolescent development, abuse and trauma theories and their link to service delivery.
  • The ability to work effectively with children/young people and to promote positive attributes and work towards planned change.
  • Demonstrated skills in case management and familiar with the use of Looking After Children requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, resilience and the commitment to participate in clinical supervision.
  • The ability to work effectively with a team to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Completion of Shared Lives and Step by Step training (desirable).
