About the Role

The Therapeutic Specialist plays a coordination role within Generalist and Intensive Foster Care programs undertaken by Life Without Barriers. The incumbent demonstrates a commitment to the care and protection of children and young people by ensuring that the CARE model is consistently applied within the program, services and practice. This position is being offered on a permanent full-time basis and is based at our office in Robina. However, due to COVID-19 we are currently working a combination of at home and in the office until further notice. A Tool of Trade vehicle (including fuel card) will also be allocated to the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review and support implementation of relevant plans (such as Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSP) and Individual Crisis Support Plans (ICSP).
  • Provide consultation to carers to promote emotional, behavioural and social development of children and young people in family-based care.
  • Provide consultation services to LWB staff to promote emotional, behavioural and social development of children and young people in family-based care. Actively participate and contribute in Care Team Meetings and provide expertise and guidance during the formulation of Plans.
  • Develop a thorough working knowledge of CARE and TCI in order to model the practices to staff and carers at all times and ensure the core principles of the CARE model are applied in all therapeutic interventions.
  • Encourage innovative multidisciplinary responses to the individual needs of children and young people which address the impacts of abuse, neglect, separation from families and complex trauma.

Skills & Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing or other relevant disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience in a therapeutic care setting or working in a clinical environment with Children and Young People in care.
  • Demonstrated experience using evidence-based assessment tools with young people with trauma informed behaviour and using resultant assessments to inform planning.
  • Current Unrestricted Australian Drivers Licence.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
