About the role

We have an exciting opportunity available with the LWB South Australian Drug and Alcohol Program for a Nurse Practitioner with Team Leader experience to lead support services in an innovative Assertive Outreach Drug and Alcohol Program, Next Steps. We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated professional with an alcohol and other drug nursing background to lead a team across the Onkaparinga region in South Australia. The position is offered on a Full Time basis until 30 June 2021 with possibility of extension depending on funding.

In this role you will ensure that participants who have a history of reluctant engagement with treatment services are encouraged into assessment and treatment for their alcohol and other drug concerns. The role coordinates and delivers a range of supports that reflect the individual’s complex, and comorbid needs and goals as described in their individual treatment plans.

The Team Leader – Nurse Practitioner is responsible for leadership and provision of clinical expertise in the coordination of a multi-disciplinary team. There is a requirement for the role to provide education, innovative and flexible health solutions, and clinical interventions to clients in an assertive outreach community-based setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build a positive team environment for a newly created team and program
  • Coordination and management of the daily operations of the Next Steps AOD Program
  • Build positive therapeutic relationships with clients and their significant others
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
  • Undertake nursing care where appropriate
  • Ensure confidentiality and appropriate use of information to provide safe and efficient delivery of client care. 

Skills & Experience 

  • Current unrestricted registration and endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Current SA Drivers licence
  • Certificate IV in AOD would be desirable.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues associated Alcohol and Drugs and their effects on the community
  • Experience leading and working in a senior capacity in a multidisciplinary team from an assertive outreach framework, and or drug and alcohol counselling, education advocacy or support.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide information and educational activities to the community on issues associated with drugs and alcohol and relevant comorbidities.
  • An understanding of managing a multi-disciplinary workforce.
  • Strong written and computer skills for the creation of plans, programs, reports, correspondence and other documents.
  • Established problem solving and conflict management skills.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
