About the Role

As Senior Support Worker, you will actively support the individual needs of people who access Life Without Barriers’ Disability Services through supporting and promoting their skills and abilities, providing support with activities of daily living and developing, implementing and monitoring their Individual Plan. Demonstrate leadership and peer support, through role modelling, coaching and quality assessment, to assist teams to achieve positive outcomes with service users. If you have a Certificate IV or Diploma in Disability, as well as experience/skills in coaching and leadership, we would love to hear from you. We are looking to fill this role either full time, or can be flexible and offer part time for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide quality direct support to service users in line with their support needs, the program they are accessing, and all support plans including the service users Individual Plan.
  • Increase the service users’ skills, independence, personal growth and development through the provision of active support and their enhanced participation as a valued member of their community.
  • Implement skills development programs and identify and support learning opportunities for service users.
  • Assist in the delivery of programs that facilitate service users’ development of social networks and inclusion in community activities.
  • Monitor the changing needs of service users and provide information and contribute to the adaptation of LWB services as required to meet these needs.
  • Ensure a safe working environment at all times.
  • Model conflict resolution and positive behaviour management skills.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in the health or welfare field (preferably disabilities) and/or relevant experience.
  • Current First Aid Certificate 
  • A current unrestricted Driver Licence.
  • A professional and positive outlook about directly supporting people with disabilities and commitment to supporting and promoting the individual needs, skills, abilities and personal goals of people with disabilities.
  • Commitment to the values of dignity, respect, inclusion, empowerment, confidentiality and strength-based practice.
  • Demonstrated leadership and peer support, problem solving and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to use initiative and to work both individually in supporting service users and as part of a team.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and hold Tasmanian Working With Vulnerable People Registration (Employment).
