About the Role

The successful candidate will provide high quality clinical analysis, advice, and leadership within a professional multi-disciplinary team. The Clinical Services team provide services to children and young people in Child, Youth and Families programs.

The role will require travel to support four regions in North Queensland. The regions include Rockhampton/Gladstone, Mackay, Townsville, and Cairns. The successful candidate can be based in any of the previously mentioned cities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership in clinical service provision within LWB as well as clinical supervision to clinicians and psychologists.
  • Manage a caseload including developing and monitoring intervention plans and strategies around out of home care clients.
  • Review placement opportunities and skill development of children and young people in out-of-home care placements.
  • Provide input and support around significant life transitions for clients in LWB placements. Such planning would involve assisting the client to develop skills to cope with these major changes, minimise the impact on them and ensure the viability of the transition.
  • Participate in decision making regarding intake & allocation of clients.
  • Consult and liaise with clients, hospital and community staff, carers/family members, and relevant agencies and other government departments, as appropriate, in relation to the client’s engagement, assessment, & treatment.
  • Exercise independent clinical judgment concerning the selection and application of principles, methods, and techniques of clinical assessment and/or treatment.
  • Develop & deliver group psycho-educational and therapy programs, where appropriate using established programs with adaptive utilisation of empirically derived clinical principles.
  • Actively participating in Clinical recruitment panels with support from the Area Clinical Services Manager to select and retain suitably skilled and experienced Clinical staff.
  • Assist the Area Clinical Services Manager by participating in Area and Statewide processes for accreditation of clinical services and contribute to service planning and formulation of policies and procedures for the Clinical team.
  • Support and promote the work of Life Without Barriers, maintaining a positive image of the organisation in accordance with level of position.
  • Comply with all Life Without Barriers policy, code of conduct, procedures and practices, external funding body requirements and legislation.
  • Apply and uphold principles of equity and anti-discrimination in the workplace and adhere to organisational and legislative Health, Safety and Environment requirements.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology or Social Work and current registration or eligibility for registration with the professional body or Psychology board of Australia to practice as a Registered Psychologist.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical services in a mental health and/or OOHC setting.
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical skills in formal and informal assessment of clients across Out of Home Care
  • Evidence of extensive skills and experience in the assessment and treatment of people with a disability and /or children and young people with high and complex needs. 
  • Demonstrated experience working in the field of childhood trauma and experience conducting risk assessments and formulating positive behaviour support plans and interventions.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and support to a multidisciplinary team and assist the team in achieving objectives, including clinical quality improvement strategies.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality work under pressure.
  • Experience working in a culturally sensitive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a willingness to work and train in culturally appropriate approaches
  • Current Driver Licence.

Desirable

  • Experience working with clients with a range of disabilities (e.g. cognitive, physical, learning)
  • Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with professionals from government and non-government agencies with common clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical supervision
  • Experience in developing and delivering group therapy programs to people less than 18 years.
  • Registration with AHPRA as a recognised supervisor to provide supervision to Provisional Psychologists. 
  • Experience in developing and delivering training packages.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
