About the Role

Working directly with Young People with trauma background and significant intellectual disability in 24/7 residential care, the successful candidate will have experience working with Children and Young People with trauma background and disabilities.

Due to the trauma background the young person has experienced, the successful candidate must be confident in working with challenging behaviours.

We have permanent part time and casual positions available in Horsley, the successful candidate may be required to work in other surrounding suburbs of Wollongong including Albion Park, Albion Park Rail, Horsley, Corrimal & Towradgi). Successful candidates will also need to be willing and available to work a rotating 24/7 roster that may include active overnight shifts and weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day to day care, supervision and transport to children and young people
  • Actively participate in activities and encourage community engagement whilst increasing competencies of young people
  • Develop, implement and monitor individual plans 
  • Follow medication, hygiene and meal management plans
  • Crisis intervention management
  • Lifting/manual handling
  • Provision of personal care
  • Support the involvement of family
  • Maintenance of progress notes and report writing

Skills & Experience

  • Experience in working with young people with trauma background and significant disability.
  • Experience working with challenging behaviours such as physical aggression.
  • Diploma in Community Services, Youth Work or similar
  • A current First Aid Certificate
  • A current unrestricted Driver Licence
  • Ability to work various shifts (sleepover & active nights) throughout the week

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check.
