About the role 

* Life Without Barriers considers that being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational requirement as outlined in State and Territory legislation and permitted as a ‘special measure’ under section 8 of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and by articles 1(4) and 2(2) of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. 

Manage a Residential Care Home with a wide range of responsibilities for managing the home including supervision and rostering of staff, managing program budgets and activities and establishment of a safe homelike environment.

You will have strong cultural connections and knowledge of the local Traditional Custodians & Native Title Holders the Darumbal People.

This role works with other key Care Team members to lead the implementation of the CARE model and ensure the home provides a therapeutic environment which actively engages children and young people in activities and routines to support them to learn life skills including emotional regulation, problem solving and social competencies. The role is primarily based within the home environment. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and maintain meaningful and supportive relationships with children/young people and their families in order to promote positive outcomes
  • Develop purposeful person-centred plans such as Care Plans, Individual Client Management Plans, Risk Management Plans and Safety Plans
  • Create a safe and healing environment with a focus on assisting children/young people to build positive attachments, strengthen existing relationships and develop competencies
  • Mentor, supervise and roster a team of Youth Workers to provide an exceptional level of care
  • Liaise with the Care Team to coordinate and meet all daily individual care needs of children/young people
  • Oversee the liveability, homeliness and safety within the homes
  • Respond therapeutically to pain based behaviours such as aggression, withdrawal and self-injury
  • Incorporate a holistic, Care Team approach, ensuring close collaboration with external stakeholders including the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women
  • Facilitate essential connections, such as the connection to culture and country for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander young people

Essential 

  • Degree in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology or Human Services
  • Demonstrated ability to develop quality individual care plans
  • Highly developed analytical skills and the ability to apply these in case management
  • Successful applicant for the position would be Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or South Sea Islander and would be considered as such by the local Community
  • Successful applicant would be considered a respectful community member of the local Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or South Sea Islander Community (references may be required)
  • Strong cultural connections and knowledge of the local Traditional Custodians & Native Title Holders the Darumbal People
  • Ability to effectively communicate and understand issues that impact Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander People;
  • The ability to function effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander People and Stakeholders/Services
  • Current driver licence
