About the Role

The purpose of the Clinician role is to give priority to the safety and well-being of children and young people by providing high quality assessment, consultative and referral services to support the permanency goals of children and young people in out of home care.

The Clinician works in a professional multi-disciplinary team in partnership with the relevant government and non-government agencies, children/young people and their families, carers and other stakeholders.

The Clinician will provide assessment, specialist referral, practice support and consultation using the CARE Model with specific emphasis on the principles of trauma informed, developmentally focused and competency centred.

This position is being offered on a permanent full time basis and can be based from any of the following offices: Robina, Shailer Park, Milton, Ipswich, Toowoomba or Maroochydore. A Tool of Trade Vehicle, including fuel card, will be allocated to the successful candidate as frequent travel to each of these locations is required.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Provide clinical knowledge and expertise to support clients in a range of Life Without Barriers Residential and Semi-Independent Living (SIL) services.
  • Undertake assessments of clients’ cognitive and learning abilities, living skills, emotional and mental health status and behavioural profile.
  • Develop and monitor intervention plans and strategies around challenging behaviours exhibited by children in out of home care with high and complex needs.
  • Review placement opportunities and skill development of children and young people in out-of-home care placements.
  • Provide training and support for youth workers, carers and staff regarding therapeutic support including behaviour support plans and incident prevention and response plans for clients.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology or Social Work and current registration or eligibility for registration with AASW or Psychology board of Australia to practice as a psychologist.
  • Current Drivers Licence.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing and planning intervention for young people under 18 years of age who exhibit a range of behaviours of concern especially high risk behaviours.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing client–centred / family-centred interventions.
  • Experience working in a culturally sensitive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a willingness to work and train in culturally appropriate approaches.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
