About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the LWB team providing a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Psychological Service across the Perth Metro area. This program provides psychological treatment services for Individuals (and their families) from a CaLD background with or at risk of mental distress. The primary focus is psychological treatment for mild-to-moderate mental health conditions with a secondary focus on short-term psychological interventions and providing assistance for people with Severe Mental Illness to access appropriate services.

The role of Psychologist is to provide structured psychological treatment services to individuals and their families from CALD backgrounds that are evidence based, in culturally appropriate and sensitive manner.   

This is a 12 month (with view to extend) and there is an option for full or part time hours (job share). A Tool of Trade vehicle, laptop and iPhone are included.

About you

  • You have a culturally diverse background or context
  • You have had direct clinical experience working with CaLD clients or in a CaLD community
  • You have a second language or have written/reading proficiency in a second language(s)
  • You have experience using interpreters (in-person and/or by telephone)

Key Responsibilities 

  • Ensure delivery of program services in accordance with the program contract, including a stepped care approach offering psychological treatments (interventions and support), underpinned by shared decision making and individual needs
  • Implement evidence-based practice through providing expert knowledge and support to achieve optimal outcomes for individuals from CaLD backgrounds following a person-centred approach which is sensitive to local contexts and client cultural needs
  • Undertake office/centre based face to face or telehealth sessions/consultations as suitable for the client(s)
  • Provide structured, assessment based, relevant and timely feedback to the individuals primary care provider and/or referring practitioner
  • Maintain booking and database systems in alignment with legislative, Life Without Barriers and contractual requirements in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Identify and manage complex risks and issues arising in the course of service delivery
  • Maintain up to date, accurate and comprehensive documentation in accordance with legislation, standards, and internal policy
  • Assist the Senior Practitioner in the development of stakeholder relationships with a strong focus on relationships with GPs, create partnerships with the local CaLD community and other service providers
  • Participate in team meetings, reflective practice sessions, case reviews and consultations, supporting a shared language and understanding of best practice.

 Skills & Experience

  • Relevant degree qualification in Psychology and registration with AHPRA (mandatory)
  • Demonstrated experience communicating with a diverse range of people (some of the languages required include Dinka, Somali, Arabic/Farsi, Vietnamese, Burmese, Mandarin/Cantonese, Hindi/Urdu)
  • Significant experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds with specific reference to culturally and Linguistically
    Diverse (CaLD).
  • Significant experience undertaking psychological testing, assessments and providing psychological therapies covering a broad range of presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing client risk and adhering to clinical governance standards.
  • Drivers Licence.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check.
