About the role

Reporting to the National Manager, Media & Communications, you will develop and implement the national media strategy whilst managing a small team of professionals. This role is pivotal in growing the foundation of Life Without Barrier’s media management and strategy so your strong experience in this space along with your alignment to our values is critical. This position is a six month maximum term contract that can be located in either Sydney, Richmond (Melbourne) or Newcastle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a small team of Media and Communications professionals
  • Lead the implementation of the national media strategy
  • Provide leadership to show media and social media integration to maximise profile of Life Without Barriers
  • Develop communication summaries and media recommendations intended to capture and report on media issues and asses media risks
  • Work in partnership with other key external media representatives within the NGO sector and funding bodies

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline  
  • Demonstrated experience in media management including issues management and proactive media opportunities
  • Strong leadership skills
  • A collaborative approach with a focus on achieving positive outcomes for the organisation
  • Strong relationships with both local and national business and industry media outlets
  • Experience in acting as a company spokesperson
  • Excellent written communication skills for development of media release, media statements communication plans, correspondence and other material

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
