About the role

Joining our new residential interim care team in Western Sydney, you will be providing direct care to children and/or young people aged between 9 to 14 years old in transitional homes. You will have a wide range of responsibilities, from program activities, child/young person development and supervision, and promotion of a safe homelike environment.

To be successful in this role you must offer energy, safety and commitment to our residents through genuine, caring and empathetic engagement, have an understanding of trauma and its effects on children and young people and be available for various shifts across a 24/7 roster including sleepovers or active nights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe environment through day to day care, supervision and transport to children and young people
  • Actively participate in activities and increase competencies of young people
  • Assist with personal care and perform household tasks as required
  • Prevent, de-escalate and respond to incidents
  • Develop, implement and monitor individual plans 
  • Report writing and maintenance of progress notes 
  • Support the involvement of family

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Services or Youth Work or equivalent experience
  • Commitment to complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and CARE Training and be assessed as TCI and CARE competent within the probationary period.
  • Experience working with children and young people who have experienced trauma and disadvantage
  • An understanding of complex trauma and its effects on children and young people
  • An ability to build positive developmental relationships and trust with children and young people.
  • An understanding of the importance of family/kinship connections to children and young people
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • A current driver licence.
