About the Role

The House Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the current residential services in the Northern suburbs of Brisbane. This is a hands-on role with most time spent on site in the home or in the community.

You will mentor a team of youth workers in providing purposeful support to young people in residential care with high and complex needs. You will strive to enhance the lives of young people in the residential setting, incorporating a therapeutic, trauma informed approach within the daily structure and purposeful programming. There is a strong emphasis on leading your team to provide a secure base for our young people within the home, liaising with culturally appropriate services, and providing opportunities for the young people to connect with the culture in which they identify within.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build professional, trusting relationships with children and young people through visible interest and active engagement.
  • Ensure the home is a place that is emotionally and physically safe, nurturing, and appropriately engaging and stimulating, to foster growth and resilience.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the Departmental Case Plan (where applicable) and develop and implement the LWB Case/Care plan that drives day to day service delivery.
  • Manage, support and provide reflective supervision and team meetings to a team of residential workers, and lead staff to work as a team in the best interests of children and young people.
  • Support staff to apply the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention system (TCI) to prevent, de-escalate and respond to crisis incidents involving children and young people.
  • Undertake rostering of residential workers ensuring that risks are managed and staffing levels reflect the needs of children and young people living in the home.
  • Coordinate the intake and transition of new children and young people into the home and the exit of children and young people to permanent homes or step-down services.
  • Ensure the CIRTS database is up to date with all client information. 

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or similar (essential).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology or similar (desirable).
  • Experience working with children and young people who have experienced trauma and disadvantage.
  • Experience in the co-ordination and management of 24-hour residential services for vulnerable people.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading a team.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage crises and critical issues and deal with complex and challenging situations.
  • Current Unrestricted Australian Drivers Licence.
  • First Aid and CPR Certificates (or willingness to obtain if successful)
  • Complete Hope and Healing Framework Foundations prior to starting (we will enrol in this if successful).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including strong interpersonal skills, use of Microsoft Office packages.
