About the role

Due to significant growth, Cairns Disability are looking for an experienced House Manager to join the team.

Our core business in Cairns is supporting clients who have complex behaviours to live as independently as possible with others or on their own in a proactive environment. 

As the House Manager you will be responsible for ensuring that people with disability who are living in disability residential support services (SIL arrangements) are supported to live their best life. This is a permanent full-time position and will be based in our Manunda office.

The successful candidate for this position will have strong content knowledge of NDIS, embracing the principles of customer choice and control and be able to supervise and lead teams to provide quality care and realise exceptional outcomes for people with a complex disability. They will be driven and self-motivated with the ability to prioritise tasks unsupervised and function within a high performing team.

Key Responsibilities

As the House Manager you will be responsible for leading a team of support workers and providing on the ground coaching and supervision, liaising with stakeholders and families to support people to achieve their goals, while partnering with people to remain connected to their community and culture. You will be energetic, with a passion for partnering with people and engaging in person centred practice.

You will have dedicated administration days as well as rostered on to support shifts during the week, dependant on the support needs of the people in the home.

You will also participate in an on-call roster on average  on week every second month for which you will be financially compensated for.

  • Ensure support to people with a disability are connected to their family, culture and community.
  • Ensure all people with a disability have opportunities to engage in activities in the community of their choice and to engage in meaningful programs or employment.
  • To ensure all Support Workers receive a high level of on the ground coaching and supervision and have support to complete a variety of training necessary to be able to provide a high level of quality care.
  • To ensure that the right supports are in place for all our staff to feel heard, respected and supported in their positions, including leading team meetings and inductions
  • Partner with people with a disability to engage in assessment and planning processes that ensure their support needs are meet.
  • Respond to behaviours of concern and complex health needs

  Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).

Skills & Experience

  • Certificate IV in Disability or Advanced Certificate in Residential and Community Services or equivalent
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Current unrestricted driver licence
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading a team
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of services to people with a disability, providing a professional and positive outlook and commitment to supporting and promoting the individual needs, skills, abilities and personal goals of people with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of dignity, respect, inclusion empowerment, confidentiality and strength-based practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining & providing service user and staff confidentiality
  • Experience in the co-ordination and management of a Supported Independent Living services for vulnerable people.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage crises and critical issues and deal with complex and challenging situations.
