About the role

This is a challenging but rewarding opportunity for you to make a positive change in the lives of People with a Disability with complex mental health needs.   

We are looking for a solid, experienced workforce to assist us. 

The clients we work with have complex mental health diagnoses and trauma history and have a history of physical and verbal aggression and/or hoarding.  You would need to be experienced and confident in working with them.

Working in a team in a positive, proactive and safe environment, you will be supported by such professionals as a Developmental Educator and Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner however you will need a strong background and/or experience in mental health understanding prior to applying for the role.

This role would encompass set rostered hours in which you would be required to work day shifts, active nights and sleepover shifts. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centred support (which may include personal care, complex medical, physical, psychosocial and behavioural support)
  • Increase the client’s choice and independence, through capacity building, skill acquisition and supported decision making
  • Assist clients to explore and participate in community-based activities of their choice
  • Be responsive to the changing needs of clients
  • Maintain an ongoing commitment to improving your practice, skills and experience
  • Complete documentation and reporting requirements
  • Cooking skills required to support the clients 

Skills & Experience

  • Valid unrestricted Australian drivers’ licence or ability to travel to client and community locations where required
  • Valid First Aid Certificate as per NDIS requirements
  • Compliance with NDIS requirements for Disability Support Workers
  • Certificate III or higher in Community Welfare, Disability/ Mental Health or similar
  • MAPA Training would be desirable
  • Extensive Mental Health and Disability experience

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
