Please note: This is a permanent part-time max-term position until 30th June, 2021.
The purpose of the Community Support Worker is to provide group and individual one to one psychosocial support services which focus on client – determination, empowerment, hope and belief that recovery from a mental illness is possible.
The roster for this Wujal Wujal based position will be between Monday and Friday - approx. 30 hours per week.
The incumbent will work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities and will need to demonstrate culture understanding and knowledge of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
If the incumbent is not an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, Life Without Barriers first preference is a reference from an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisation (ACCO), who can verify knowledge and experience against the selection criteria. If not possible, Life Without Barriers will consider a reference from a respected Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person known to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Life Without Barriers staff member from the office recruiting.
Life Without Barriers considers that being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational requirement as outlined in a State or territory legislation and permitted as a ‘special measure’ under section 8 of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and by articles 1(4) and 2(2) of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
