About the Role

The Community Recovery Support Worker will work within the National Psycho-Social Measure (NPSM). The measure is aimed at people with severe mental illness who are not eligible for assistance through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The objectives of the NPSM are to provide psychosocial support services, and equity in service availability while reducing the need for intense and acute health services including access to hospital.

Services have a client focus; self-determination, empowerment, hope and belief that recovery from a mental illness is possible.

The successful candidates will deliver flexible psychosocial recovery support to adults which enhances both life skills and citizenship. Services are delivered within the framework of recovery.  Support services include home based outreach and connection of clients with their local community.

NPSM is provided on weekdays from 9 am till 5 pm, however, there may be times when we are required to work outside of these times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support clients to develop their own support plans.
  • Engage clients and develop trusting and professional relationships.
  • Work together with clients, their community and community support agencies such as mental health, housing, and other services to ensure an integrated and timely service.
  • Monitor and review clients' progress through the service and against their support plan and provide up to date progress reports to the partner organisations.
  • Sensitively ascertain information about the clients’ health, family, and cultural background. 

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health or equivalent.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from Diverse Cultural Backgrounds with specific reference to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively engage, interact and work with people who have complex needs including psychosocial disability.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the issues faced by people with mental health issues.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Recovery Framework and the underlying principles.
  • Current Drivers Licence and willingness to use own suitable vehicle.

This position will be required to undergo probity checks including criminal record checks and working with children check.
