About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Therapist to join our MST-CAN team. This is a contract role through to June 2021 with possibility of extension.

MST is widely considered the gold standard for treatment of adolescent antisocial behaviour and is utilised in the US, Europe, the UK, and NZ. MST-CAN is an adaptation of the MST model and is targeted to families who have recent risk of harm reports pertaining to ongoing child abuse and neglect.

The purpose of the MST-CAN Therapist is to conduct therapy and case management associated with Multi-Systemic Therapy (Child Abuse and Neglect) for 6-17 year olds’ and their families. The incumbent provides in-home clinical services, negotiates therapeutic goals and uses systemic resources to assist in meeting these goals.

As part of this program you will be supported through weekly consultation and supervision. You will develop highly sought-after skills in systemic assessment, comprehensive safety planning, CBT for anger management, behaviour management planning, evidence-based trauma treatment for children (TFCBT) and adults (PET), substance abuse treatment (reinforcement based treatment), functional analysis, strategic family therapy, parent management training, and more. 

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor qualification (Masters level preferred) in psychology, social work, counselling and/or mental health nurse
  • Eligible for registration with the appropriate board
  • Experience in the child and family welfare field and Child Protection experience essential
  • Experience in (CBT) Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy including trauma treatment, Structural Family Therapy, Strategic Family Therapy, motivational interviewing and behaviourally-based treatments preferred.
