About the Role

An exciting opportunity is now available for a Behaviour Support Practitioner to join the Positive Behaviour Support Team based in South-East Queensland.

The position is required to provide high-quality positive behaviour support and clinical services to clients in our program as part of a professional multi-disciplinary team with support from a Senior Clinician.

Please Note: State-wide travel may be required for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical knowledge and expertise to support clients in a range of Life Without Barriers programs.
  • Complete assessment (including data collation and analysis) of risk and behaviours of concern.
  • Develop, deliver and monitor interventions and strategies around behaviours exhibited by people with a disability, and who may have multiple diagnoses which impact their behaviour.
  • Provide Behaviour Support services that are timely, efficient and effective, ensuring they meet the goals identified by the client and their families/carers and are provided within available resources.
  • Work with the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Commission requirements, the NDIA Terms of Business and any State-Based Restricted Practice Authorisation requirements.
  • Provide training and support to staff, teachers, parents etc. in interventions and strategies developed for NDIA participants including behaviour support plans, therapeutic interventions, restricted practices, risk and safety plans.
  • Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders e.g. Client, family members, support staff, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Psychiatrists, Teachers and Day activity providers.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in allied health professions such as Psychology, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, or other health profession with a professional registration requirement in the relevant profession; or equivalent experience that meets the requirements of the NDIS.
  • Registration with AHPRA or relevant professional body (desired but not essential).
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of behaviour support services to children, adolescents, and/or adults with disabilities displaying complex support needs (e.g. mental health diagnosis, health needs, complex trauma, involvement with the criminal justice system).
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience working in positive behaviour support approaches including the use of authorised Restrictive Practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience working in a billable hours environment such as the NDIS.
  • Experience working in a culturally sensitive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and/or a willingness to work and train utilising culturally appropriate approaches.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to provide a service based on a client’s NDIS Plan, goals and funding allocation.
  • Current Driver Licence.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
