About the role 

A fantastic opportunity exists for a Male Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cultural Support Planner to join our Alice Springs team.

This position will partner with individuals and their families, community, staff and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of culturally responsive care is provided through Life Without Barriers for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders people across the Central Desert Region.

Key Responsibilities

Key to this position is to ensure one’s sense of Identity, Belonging and Connection is strengthened and maintained regardless of a disability and/or physical location. You will be required to partner with people to:

  • Support and promote engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community groups.
  • Actively participate in culturally appropriate activities
  • Deliver and support programs, activities and other cross-cultural training
  • Provide cultural advice supporting best practice in working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and communities
  • Travel regularly to remote and rural locations to support return to countries.
  • Maintain positive relationships with key members and stakeholders as identified

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification in Social Science, Community Development, Social Work or related discipline, and/or extensive knowledge and experience in working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Current Drivers Licence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social determinants impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities in contemporary society.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Prior experience in working with individuals, families and communities from a strength-based, culturally appropriate perspective.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and presentation ability.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills for the creation of reports, correspondence and other material

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
