We are seeking a passionate, energetic and experienced Youth Counsellor to join our growing Intensive Therapeutic Transitional Care Team!

The Youth Counsellor will be required to provide time limited (up to 13 weeks) direct counselling support in a child-centred environment or through the outreach program.

The role of the Youth Counsellor is to support the Therapeutic Specialist ITTC and the ITTC Multidisciplinary team by assisting with achieving the overarching goals for therapeutic intervention.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Respond to referrals for counsellor by the DCJ CFDU in the New England region
• Engage young people aged 12- 18 years who are at risk of having a placement breakdown
• Conduct an intake assessment with the young person and relevant stakeholders to assess the support needs
• Provide individual counselling using a trauma informed and strengths-based approach
• Support young people to improve their interpersonal relationships
• Create a safe and supportive environment for young people within the ITTC program

Make It Matter - What you will bring to make a difference in other's lives

• Diploma of Counselling qualification, or above
• Minimum 1 – 2 years’ experience in working with young people aged 12 – 18 years
• A capacity to reflect on your own work and actively participate as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Demonstrated ability to engage and work with diverse young people and their carers, family or external supports
• Demonstrated knowledge of child protection legislation and mandatory reporting requirements.
