About the Role

  • Full time maximum-term contract to June 2022

An exciting community development opportunity has become available promoting the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) approach, supporting the inclusion and participation of children with disability. The role is responsible for networking with and building the capacity of mainstream and community-based services throughout Lifestart’s ECEI partnership areas, including Sydney, South Eastern Sydney, Nepean Blue Mountains, Illawarra Shoalhaven and Central Coast regions. This is a contracted position (full time) to 30 June 2022.

As a member of the Community Capacity Building team, you will play a pivotal role including:

  • Developing, implementing and monitoring community capacity building plans to create inclusive communities for children with disability.
  • Networking within local communities, developing and maintaining strong collaborative partnerships with the aim of building community awareness of the NDIS ECEI approach
  • Empowering mainstream service providers to increase their skills, resources and confidence needed to provide inclusion and participation opportunities for children with disability
  • Delivering presentations, education programs and attending meetings to provide a clear vision of the ECEI framework and referral processes to a range of audiences
  • Providing information on NDIS guidelines and legislation
  • Providing support to Lifestart staff to develop connections and the delivery of community capacity building
  • Undertake accurate and timely documentation and communication, and this includes but is not limited to statistical information, reports, responses to enquires, verbal and written documentation to referrers, clients and organisations as required by stakeholders

What you will bring

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Community Development, Social Sciences or other appropriate field (including Early Childhood)
  • Previous experience in developing and implementing community development, engagement and capacity building initiatives
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience working with children and families
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership with the ability to influence sector development and capacity building
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated ability to network and build collaborative partnerships with government agencies and service providers at regional and local levels
  • Experience in designing, implementing and facilitating community engagement events and activities, and evaluation of same
  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Ability to foster a strengths-based approach to person and family centred practice.
  • Highly adaptable, and able to work flexibly and responsively in a constantly changing environment
  • IT skills - Database management, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Hold a current Drivers Licence and access to a registered vehicle to perform the role

Understanding of the NDIA ECEI Approach, and the needs of children with disability, their families/carers is highly desirable.

Successful applicants must hold a valid Working with Children clearance number and successfully undertake pre-employment background checks.
