Lifestart’s Sector Capacity Building (Disability and Inclusion program) Team has a vacancy for a dynamic Early Childhood Special Educator/Teacher. The Sector and Capacity Building program is funded by the Department of Education and provides inclusion support and training to nominated preschools, with the following objectives:

  • Increase their capacity to include children with disability and additional needs on the same basis as their peers
  • Enable equitable education outcomes for children with disability and additional needs consistent with the five outcome areas of the Early Years Learning Framework (Identity, Connectedness, Wellbeing, Confident and Involved Learners, Communication)
  • Understand the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) as it relates to the delivery of supports for children through the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) approach within an educational setting.

Strong interpersonal skills are required, as you will work with preschool staff to build on their existing skills, knowledge and abilities through coaching and collaboration. These efforts will increase each preschool’s capacity for including children with disability and/or developmental delay according to ECIA’s best practice standards, the EYLF, and NQF.

This is a contracted position to December 2021, preferably full-time however part-time hours will be considered.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:

  • University qualification in Early Childhood Education or Teaching
  • Qualification and/or experience in disability or special education
  • Demonstrated experience working in the early childhood sector
  • Demonstrated experience working with children with disabilities or developmental delay and their families/carers
  • Demonstrated ability in providing professional support
  • Ability to deliver services and programs that are in alignment with organisational and government policy directions
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly in response to stakeholders needs and priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work sensitively and empathically with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and complex needs
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid Working with Children Check Clearance
  • Successful pre-employment police check
  • Hold a current drivers licence and access to a vehicle, to perform the role
