About the role

#SpeakUP is a new innovative program which supports young people with a disability aged 7-14 years to feel more positive about school, more confident to speak up about their choices and to have greater participation at school. The program is also targeted at parents/carers to increase their skills and knowledge in supporting the self-advocacy skills of their young person. The program will be delivered online across NSW to students with disabilities attending mainstream schools.

You will work collaboratively with the Manager, Inclusion Services to help develop and implement the #SpeakUP program strategy, project work plans and other relevant material to ensure the program meets its deliverables. We are seeking a dynamic person who is able to work autonomously and as part of a team, capable of prioritising tasks and effectively monitor project outcomes through data collection and reporting.

To succeed in this role, you will have a high level of energy, enthusiasm and a genuine commitment to achieving positive results. This is a contracted position to June 2022 on a full-time basis.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline including Social Sciences, Allied Health, Psychology, Social Work, Education or equivalent.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in project co-ordinationin the child and family, youth and/or disability sectors.
  • An accredited degree in relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to a rights-based approach to disability and awareness of the diversity within disability
  • Demonstrated understanding of the impact of a disability on children, young people and their families/carers
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritise a range of competing demands
  • Experience in evaluation and data collection
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building and networking skills and the ability to build rapport and maintain effective working relations with a diverse range of people
  • High level written, verbal and analytic skills.
  • A strong work ethic and ability to work independently, with appropriate support.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Proficiency in IT, specifically Microsoft Office and online platforms
  • Valid Working with Children Check Clearance
  • Valid NDIS Working Check
  • Successful pre-employment police check
  • Current driver’s licence and use of own car

Desirable

  • Experience working in the community sector, particularly the child, youth, family and/or disability sectors
  • Understanding and experience of how to engage with young people with disability, including those with diverse needs and/or backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated understanding of person-centred approaches and planning
  • Knowledge of the changing policy and direction of the disability sector with the NDIS.
