About Us

Lifeline Direct (LLD) is the service delivery arm of Lifeline Australia, operating in six geographical regions around Australia including Hunter, New England and Central Coast (HNECC). We deliver a suite of services that have a measurable impact in supporting our communities including our national 13 11 14 Crisis Support Line, Lifeline Text Service, community based programs as well as Face to Face (F2F) Counselling Services.

About the positions

Lifeline Direct has been identified by the Hunter, New England and Central Coast (HNECC) Primary Health Network (PHN) as the preferred provider of counselling and peer worker support services for people in 10 x communities across the HNECC region who have been affected by significant bushfires that occurred in the region in late 2019 and early 2020.

LLD are seeking experienced Face to Face Counsellors that are passionate about linking rural community members with low-intensity Counselling support in the Mid-Coast Region (Taree, Forster, Gloucester, Mid Coast) and New England Region (Tenterfield, Inverell, Glen Innes).

Counsellors will engage with the local communities to offer 4 hours per fortnight (flexible delivery) of counselling support service. These services are targeted at members of the community that could otherwise face barriers to engaging with supports.

Intake, administration support and facilities will be provided by LLD. These paid Face to Face Counsellor positions are temporary part-time (up to 18 months).

About you

You hold a Diploma or Degree in Counselling and meet the eligibility criteria for Level One membership of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). You are passionate about engaging with the community and providing services to those in need that might otherwise face barriers to accessing supports. You are organised, client-focused and can effectively manage tasks and deadlines while maintaining a high degree of self-awareness and professionalism. You will have the ability to display tact, discretion and integrity in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters.

What the position requires

  • Meet the eligibility criteria for Level One membership of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA)
  • Completed/willing to complete the LLD Counsellor Induction Program
  • Be able to maintain accurate and confidential client contacts and records using the appropriate computer software
  • Be able to accurately record statistical data as required
  • Positively promote LLD’s counselling service
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with supervisors
