LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) is the national peak health organisation in Australia for organisations and individuals that provide health-related programs, services and research focused on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people and other sexuality, gender, and bodily diverse people and communities.
LHA works with legislators, policymakers, and service providers to help them understand and address the needs of LGBTIQ+ people and communities. We support LHA members to have a stronger policy voice and partner with researchers across the country on issues of LGBTIQ+ health and wellbeing.
About The Role
In this role, the Director Training and Capacity Building is responsible for the management of the Ageing and Aged Care program (Silver Rainbow Program), and the Disability Inclusion programs.
This role reports to the Deputy CEO and oversees the two program leads as direct reports.
- Manage Ageing and Aged Care programs (Silver Rainbow), oversee Disability Inclusion programs, and ensure program key performance indicators are met through effective implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Lead in transitioning the Silver Rainbow program into a fee for service program, to be delivered by partner organisations.
- Develop strategies and maintain relationships to provide integrated responses to LGBTIQ community needs, working closely with the Deputy CEO and CEO on funding proposals.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, contracts, and organisational policies.
- Promote a positive workplace culture through integrity and professionalism, representing LHA at forums, committees and conferences focused on LGBTIQ health and wellbeing.
- Manage budgets for the programs and ensure project deliverables are met in collaboration with Program Leads.
- Engage with the sector to promote training and capacity building initiatives, manage relationships with LHA partners, and act as the key liaison on these programs.
- Travel is required once a month.
Essential Criteria
To excel in this role, you must be an experienced program and people manager with a passion for working with the LGBTIQ community in the health sector. Key requirements include:
- Minimum two years senior management experience in health, education, or human services and/or extensive experience in health/welfare management, especially in the NGO sector.
- Extensive background in training and development, preferably in health or community services.
- Proven experience in program management and implementing health and wellbeing programs.
- Project management experience is highly regarded.
Preferred Experience Required
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the LGBTIQ sectors, their services and systems and strong working relationships within these sectors as well as with the government and non-government health sectors.
- Demonstrated experience and a successful track record of programmatic management and implementation of health and wellbeing programs including the development, implementation and evaluation of harm reduction and peer education programs within a community organisation context.
- Awareness and understanding of the health disparities that impact LGBTIQ communities, for example, ageing and aged care, disability, social inclusion and other health and social issues.
- Experience in working effectively and collaboratively in a small team environment, with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated understanding of the workings of government (Commonwealth and State/Territory), and of the health sector.
