Lentil as Anything recently celebrated its 21st birthday and we are looking for a positive, passionate and organised Volunteer Coordinator who relishes the challenge of working with thousands of diverse volunteers each year to run Lentil as Anything’s Newtown operations. This is a very varied role that involves recruiting, training, and day-to-day management of volunteers, liaising with external job placement and government agencies, conflict resolution.
This role is a great opportunity to become part of the Lentil As Anything Management Team and gain valuable work experience within a community focused not-for-profit organisation.
Timeframe:
- This role can be either full time or part time, depending on the individual
- Starting ASAP
Key Roles and responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a strong volunteer program, including rewards scheme, social events and communications
- Minimum of one shift weekly working on the floor as the Team Lead
- Improve and facilitate volunteer inductions and training sessions
- Ensure the volunteer roster is active and updated
- Work closely with Team Leads on the floor and kitchen to ensure volunteers are safe and supported
- Manage the internship program, including Social Media, Graphic Design and PR
- Be the main point of contact for those doing work experience or projects at Lentils
- Work closely with Restaurant Manager to ensure smooth running of the restaurant and provide occasional administrative support
- Facilitate volunteer involvement in projects such as Café Pathway Program, Sustainability, Art etc.
- Assist, coordinate and build projects between Lentils and the greater community
COMPETENCIES – REQUIRED
- 3+ years demonstrated experience in social work, volunteer management/coordination, or community engagement
- Demonstrated experience in conflict management and working with a varied range of people, including in multicultural environments, with people with disabilities or with those with family, personal and social challenges
- Strong Microsoft Office and Google Suite capabilities, particularly Sheets and Docs
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- Excellent ability to self-organise and think clearly in busy work environments
- Ability to work in a diverse team but tackle projects independently at times
- Open-mindedness and strong sense of empathy, with a drive to go the extra mile and create and maintain lasting personal relationships with people from a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
- True dedication to supporting people to be themselves and achieve their own goals
COMPETENCIES – PREFERRED
- Evidence of experience in a NFP
- Experience in hospitality
- Experience in recruitment or education and training
- A love of Lentils is a must!
