The Law Council of Australia (Law Council) is the peak national representative body of the Australian legal profession. Since 1933 the Law Council has represented its Constituent Bodies, which include State and Territory law societies and bar associations, to speak on national issues, and promote the administration of justice, access to justice and general improvement of the law.

The International Division is responsible for formulating and advancing the Law Council’s international strategy, which includes maintaining relationships with counterpart peak legal organisations and multilateral bodies and promoting the rule of law and fundamental rights and freedoms.

The Research Officer provides support to the International Division by assisting in the preparation of written material on a diverse range of legal and international policy issues, research papers and reports.

While having a focus on international policy, the Senior Policy Lawyer (International) may be expected to work in all areas of the Law Council’s policy endeavours. The position will also be required to work closely with the Law Council’s other Divisions, Advisory Committees, Working Groups, Sections and Constituent Bodies.

Appropriate tertiary qualifications in law is required. The salary is $70,000 plus superannuation.
