Why this role matters

The Housing Worker MSIR outpost is based in the Medically Supervised Injecting Room in Richmond and is part of Launch Housing's Entry Point's portfolio, which encompasses a number of programs providing support to clients experiencing, or at risk of homelessness.

The aim of the role is to help people prevent and end homelessness by providing assessment, planning, prioritisation, accommodation assistance, advice and referrals for additional support. The position will be based in the Medically Supervised Injecting Room and work with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness who utilise this service. As well as in close collaboration with a number of key service providers, particularly those based within MSIR and the North Richmond precinct. The role sits within the Rough Sleeper Initiative (RSI) team, which provides support to people sleeping rough in the City of Yarra, in addition to three other inner-city local government areas (Melbourne, Port Phillip and Stonnington). Team meetings and supervision will be at Launch Housing offices.

What we're looking for

We are currently seeking a skilled & passionate individual, someone committed to working with people who are experiencing homelessness, or at risk of homelessness on their journey out of homelessness.

It is expected that the successful candidate will bring

  • To provide initial assessment of housing and support need, information and assistance to people utilising the MSIR within the Opening Doors Framework.
  • Provide client-centered services to persons experiencing or at risk of homelessness, including crisis intervention, assessment, prioritisation, assistance to secure crisis accommodation, assistance to secure or maintain long term accommodation, distribution of financial assistance and linkages to appropriate support services.
  • To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering face-to-face services in a dynamic drop-in service.
  • Utilise IAP and VI-SPDAT assessment tools to identify and prioritise people in the most need of program resources.
  • Maintain client files and records in accordance with policies & procedures of both Launch Housing and the MSIR.
  • Assist in the collection of strategic data and evidence of the need for housing and homelessness support for the MSIR cohort.
  • Advocate on behalf of those experiencing homelessness to ensure that services are relevant, flexible and accessible to people experiencing homelessness.
  • Ensure clients are assisted to understand their rights & responsibilities in the provision of accommodation and support assistance
