Why this role matters

The Group Worker is responsible for organising and facilitating therapeutic and recreational or educational groups for children (0-12 years) and parents who have experienced homelessness or family violence. The purpose of child-centred group work is to provide opportunities for children to learn, play and connect with peers. Parent-focused group work aims to capacity-build with parents and promote caregiving skills and parent-child connection.

Who we're looking for

The Group Worker develops ongoing relationships with external stakeholders such as other community services and government organisations to promote awareness and understanding of the needs of children and young people who have experienced homelessness or family violence. You will also have:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications (desirable) and experience &/or knowledge of the welfare sector
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Homelessness service system, in particular the needs of and issues affecting families who are at risk of, or who are experiencing homelessness and family violence
• Knowledge of or experience working with children who have complex needs and an understanding of child development
• Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed practices when working with children and their families and the ability to implement a trauma-informed approach when designing and facilitating groups
