About the role

Larter is increasingly being asked to lead or participate in a range of project and program evaluations, usually in the health sector. This exciting growth has precipitated the need to expand our internal evaluation capability and knowledge – initially through the upskilling of staff, and now through this new position.

The successful candidate will live in Australia and ideally will work from a home office in greater Melbourne or south-east Queensland; however, this is negotiable.

Following a supported induction period, the Evaluation Consultant will begin evaluation consulting work under the guidance and direction of our Principal Consultant. Once comfortable with Larter systems and policies, the Consultant will have opportunities to lead / project manage which will entail project management, and the management of project teams that may involve external contractors that have been brought in to work on evaluations.

The Consultant will also work closely with other staff on important work internal to the organisation, particularly to win new work and to assist the organisation to grow in successful pursuit of its vision for the primary health sector. Examples of internal work include writing tenders and proposals; writing marketing copy such as blog articles and project case studies; and participating in business planning activities.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Work in small teams to manage and participate in project evaluation and other consulting projects for clients across the health and community services sectors.
  2. Contribute to business operations by writing work proposals for clients, responding to tenders, contributing to blogs and case studies and contributing to strategic planning.

Skills and experience required

  1. The ability to plan and manage evaluation projects and to contribute to multiple / concurrent projects within schedule
  2. Knowledge of research and evaluation methodologies and practical experience in applying these methodologies
  3. Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate field such as evaluation, a health discipline, research techniques, management or economics
  4. Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English including listening and interpreting skills; and the ability to negotiate positive, mutually agreeable outcomes with external stakeholders
  5. The ability to consult effectively with a range of stakeholders to gather information to effectively inform evaluation and project outcomes
  6. The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  7. Effective time management skills including the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  8. Adherence to statutory acts, mandatory professional standards and mandatory professional codes of practices and ethics relevant to professional registration
  9. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and the Google suite of products
  10. A current driver license that enables driving a vehicle within Australia, and the ability to travel for work when required
  11. A home office setup that adheres to occupational health and safety legislation.
